Random Thoughts: The Most Effective Frog Boils are the Slowest

Tweets from September, 2022:
  • 2022-09-01: The most effective frog boils are the slowest.
  • 2022-09-02: I can't see Jason Villalba's tweet because he has me blocked (no idea why) but it must be something good.
  • 2022-09-03: NASA Scrubs Artemis I Launch to the Moon Again." Again. The moon doesn't want us to come back.

After the jump, more random thoughts.

  • 2022-09-03: Email from Trump with a one minute deadline. I didn't vote for him the first two times, so I guess I have to answer "no".
  • 2022-09-04: Allen West, recent chair of the Republican Party of Texas and medieval cosplay warrior.
  • 2022-09-05: Julia (TV 2022): Yet another Julia Child show, this one maybe the best of the lot. It focuses on the first season of her cooking show, featuring the drama behind-the-scenes even getting the show on the air. Sarah Lancashire captures what made Julia a unique star. B+
  • 2022-09-07: Surface (TV 2022): Woman almost drowns, gets amnesia, tries to piece her past life together. Did she jump? Was she pushed? Who all is having an affair? What about that embezzling? Everyone lies. She eventualy works it all out, even if she keeps some secrets for Season 2. C+
  • 2022-09-09: Book Review: On Tyranny: Short book drawing parallels between modern America and Mussolini, Hitler, and Stalin. Timothy Snyder lays out 20 simple ways each of us can fight the creep of fascism here in America. It's a how-to, a timely call to action. A-
  • 2022-09-11: The situation Russia finds itself in is the direction that President Donald Trump was taking America before he was freely and fairly defeated by Joe Biden in 2020. Is Russia great again?
  • 2022-09-12: She's blowing smoke here. If @Bethvanduyne seriously wanted to "reduce gun violence" there are a dozen things she could do that would be more effective than this. This is a sign she doesn't want voters to know she doesn't support reducing gun violence at all.
  • 2022-09-13: Thor: Love and Thunder (2022): One of Marvel's better efforts. A sober start quickly turns into an over-the-top non-stop self-parody of action-adventure films. Never takes itself seriously. Best thing about it was how the film treats kids. Manipulative but kids will love it. B-
  • 2022-09-13: A "park" that is nothing more than a wide strip of grass alongside an arterial, not intended for people to use, but only as a pleasant view for people who pass by in cars, could accurately be called a "spam park", or "spark." Example: Campbell Ridge Park in Richardson.
  • 2022-09-14: Is the City of Richardson experimenting with this style of bike lane? (Or just going ahead and adopting it, which is my preference?) By the way, this is the only style of bike lane that I would count in a street conversion as discussed in "Net Zero Roads for RIchardson."
  • 2022-09-15: The Bear (TV 2022): A sitcom, but there's no comedy. A rising chef inherits struggling family restaurant when his brother commits suicide. Kitchen is pure chaos, with everyone shouting at each other simultaneously. An intense study in grief, anger, and heart. Not for everyone. A-
  • 2022-09-15: Texas delays publication of maternal death data until after midterms, legislative session." Because of course the GOP isn't pro-life. They aren't pro-woman. They're pro-control.
  • 2022-09-15: As with Trump's family separation policy, the cruelty is the point. https://t.co/bwvxTnxA26
  • 2022-09-16: Pete, trust me when I say this, let it go. North Dallas just wasn't that into you.
  • 2022-09-19: Why Dems are bad at politics...they are so easily trolled.
  • 2022-09-20: Richardson is considering limiting the number of campaign signs allowed at City Hall. Instead of capping the number, why not require a minimum distance between any two signs for the same candidate?
  • 2022-09-20: The restriction on size of election signs is 36 sq. ft. Why haven't any candidates taken advantage of this at City Hall?
  • 2022-09-20: Texas Monthly has a profile of David Gordon Green, the Richardson High School graduate and director of movies like Pineapple Express and the recent Halloween trilogy, including the upcoming Halloween Ends.
  • 2022-09-21: Schmigadoon (TV 2021): Backpacking couple wanders into a 1940s musical and is stranded there until they find true love. A form of entertainment that doesn't exist anymore. More homage than parody. Unexpectedly, it gets better the longer it goes. Just go with it. Delightful. B-
  • 2022-09-21: Today's fundraising appeal from Trump has the subject line, "I'm humbly asking for your support." The man doesn't have a humble bone in his body. He goes on to say, "This November it is FREEDOM versus TYRANNY." Accusing his opponents of what he is guilty of is projection again.
  • 2022-09-22: Two things. 1) This is a novel theory that I'd love to hear Trump use in court. 2) Doesn't this concede that Trump knew he was sending classified documents to Mar-a-Lago?
  • 2022-09-22: Because of the recent fire at Richardson City Hall, early voting in the 2022 November election will be moving to First United Methodist Church, just a short trip down US75.
  • 2022-09-23: Book Review: Dance Dance Dance: 1988 novel with Haruki Murakami's signature touch of magical realism. This sequel to "A Wild Sheep Chase" is even better. A Japanese writer goes through an early midlife crisis as people around him disappear. What's real? What's imagination? B+
  • 2022-09-24: Multiple NFL Owners Believe Daniel Snyder Should Sell Washington Commanders." I'm an NFL team owner myself (Green Bay Packers, 1 share), and I can say I'm one of those who want Snyder gone.
  • 2022-09-27: The U.S. and the Holocaust (TV 2022): Heroism and sacrifice are here, stories America likes to tell itself, but also here are xenophobia and the failure to do more. No matter how much you know, watch this. And have every generation of kids watch, too. Our sins live on today. A+
  • 2022-09-27: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton fled his home in a truck driven by his wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, to avoid being served a subpoena, according to an affidavit filed in federal court." This is the guy Texans chose to enforce our laws. This year, vote for Rochelle Garza.
  • 2022-09-27: "The lone opponent is Ted Cruz." Because of course he is.
  • 2022-09-29: Remember Me (2022): Biopic of Mahalia Jackson. Could use more room to let scenes play out. Mother, aunts, husband(s?), business manager, MLK, each come and go in a hurry. Best thing by far about the movie is Ledisi's singing. More of that, please. C+
