Today's photo-of-the-day was taken at Wat Arun in Bangkok on the morning of our last day in Thailand.
After the jump, one last photograph.
In the afternoon we flew out of Bangkok on our way back home to Richardson. While we were still airborne, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar, the most catastrophic earthquake in Myanmar since 1912. While Myanmar was more severely affected, by far, in Bangkok a high-rise building under construction collapsed, trapping several dozen workers. John and Dessy's high-rise hotel swayed. They had to evacuate, descending dozens of flights of stairs on foot. If I believed in omens, I might think that an earthquake striking just after we left John in Bangkok might have been a warning. Three months later, after a short illness, John passed away in Jakarta.
Below is the last photograph of John and me together. With it, I say goodbye to Thailand...and to John.
"Long ago it must be,
I have a photograph.
Preserve your memories;
They're all that's left you."
— Paul Simon.

world cracked open behind us.
Sign of worse to come?"
