The Richardson ISD will hold an election for Board of Trustees on May 4, 2024. Two seats are up for election: Single-member Place 1, currently held by Megan Timme, and At Large Place 7, currently held by Chris Poteet.
Chris Poteet is the only candidate who has filed to run, according to the RISD's elections filings page. Megan Timme's plans are unknown by me. No challenger has yet filed for either seat yet. Deadline to file is February 16, 2024.
Other election filings of interest are the semi-annual campaign finance reports, which were due January 16, 2024. Five of the seven RISD trustees have these mandatory reports published on the RISD's website (Eric Eager and Regina Harris are the exceptions). Of the five, none reported raising any campaign funds in the second half of 2023. Chris Poteet reports having $10,179.96 unspent and available from past campaigns, but also having $8,000 in outstanding loans.
The City of Richardson will not hold an election in 2024, but Councilmembers are still required to file semi-annual campaign finance reports. In a new practice, the City is posting these reports on the City website's Campaign Finance page.
All seven Councilmembers have filed their semi-annual campaign finance report for the second half of 2023. Only one reported receiving any campaign contributions during that period (Jennifer Justice, $100 from one donor). The officeholder with the largest amount of contributions maintained from prior campaigns is Ken Hutchenrider, with $3,657.66. Also Jennifer Justice and Bob Dubey each have more then $3,000 cash on hand.

In a bit of additional detail, the $8,000 outstanding loan listed on Chris Poteet's financial report is from a self loan to his campaign three years ago. He has the option (and balance on hand) to repay himself if he wants or leave it with the campaign for expenditures this year.
Trustee Megan Timme's application to seek re-election to Single-Member District 1 is now on the RISD Election Filings website.
At the close of the filing window, only Chris Poteet and Megan Timme filed to run. Because they are in different places/districts, that means they have no opposition. That means the RISD can cancel the election, saving the school district an estimated $150,000. That money will come in handy as the trustees wrestle with closing a $41 million budget deficit for the 2024-2025 school year.
