Ruth D. Tiedeman, 86, of Richardson, Texas, passed away on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. She was a longtime resident of Evansville, moving to Texas, in the fall of 2006, to be near her daughter.

Ruth was born in Hickman, Ky., on Sept. 25, 1923, and later moved to Paducah, Ky., where she met and married her husband, Walter, on Dec. 29, 1946. She graduated from Tilghman High School in Paducah, Ky., where she was a member of The National Honor Society. She graduated from Bowling Green Business College. She was a member of Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Her working career before marriage was with the Kentucky Ordinance Plant, Gulf Oil Corp., and Woodall-Melton Insurance Co., all in Paducah, where she was a private secretary. After marriage, she was the secretary to the personnel director at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. When Ruth moved to Evansville in 1948, she began her career as a homemaker.

She was a charter member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church, and served as the church clerk for several years. She was a charter member of American Baptist East when Eastern Heights and Eastside Baptist merged. She was a member of the Hearthstone Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Bud and Blossom Garden Club.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 63 years, Walter D. Tiedeman of Richardson, Texas; daughter, Ellen T. Steger and son-in-law, Mark J. Steger of Richardson; and grandsons, Scott T. Steger of Pasadena, Calif., and John M. Steger of Evanston, Ill.

Funeral services 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at American Baptist East Church, 6300 Washington Avenue Evansville, with Pastor Jeff Stratton officiating. Entombment in Mausoleum 2 at Oak Hill Mausoleum. Visitation 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at American Baptist East. Memorial contributions may be made to American Baptist East Church, 6300 Washington Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47715.

Boone Funeral Home, East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville will be handling the arrangements.
